The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is the largest freestanding clinical laboratory in the city, standing at 74-feet tall. The newly opened Center for Laboratory Medicine runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, processing 5,000 patient specimens and performing 25,000 clinical laboratory tests daily. Designed by Perkins+Will, the total construction area reached nearly 90,000 square-feet, though only 49,000 square-feet was counted towards zoning, given that three of the building’s nine total stories were submerged below grade.
